As part of our ongoing support of young local fashion and design talent, Buchanan Galleries sponsors both the under-graduate and post-graduate fashion shows for fashion and textile courses at the Glasgow School of Art.
Previous textiles graduates from the School include Jonathan Saunders, Pam Hogg, Louise Gray, Jamie Bruski Tetsill, Scott Ramsay Kyle and hosiery designers and Scottish Fashion Award winners Bebaroque.
Graduates of the MDes Textiles as Fashion programme can be found at Philip Treacy, Alexander McQueen, Richard Nicoll, Saville Row, Urban Oufitters, Emma Cook and All Saints.
Buchanan Galleries has sponsored the Glasgow School of Art under-graduate fashion show since 2009.
The annual fashion show is organised in spring each year by the 3rd year textile students on the BA (Hons) Design Programme. A regular feature since the 1940s, it's been the starting point in the career of many successful designers - including Jonathan Saunders, Louise Gray, Scott Ramsay Kyle, Jamie Bruski-Tetsill and Bebaroque.
Participating students not only design the garments they show, but also the textiles from which they're made.
This year's shows will take place at the Glasgow School of Art's Vic Bar on Renfrew Street on Tuesday 8th and Wednesday 9th March 2011. By buying a ticket you will help fund the show and support some of Scotland up and coming design talent. Tickets cost £7/£5 - buy them from the Glasgow School of Art shop or get them on-line.
See more about this show at the GSA fashion show blog or on facebook
2010 was the first year that the Masters of Fashion promenade was sponsored - and Buchanan Galleries is proud to have been able to support the show last year, this year and in the years to come.
Called a 'promenade' rather than a fashion show (because the show is held in intimate surroundings in the School's Macintosh Gallery rather than on a staged catwalk), this show is the culmination of the renowned MDes postgrad course.
Only a select number of students are accepted to the course each year - in 2010 only nine students put on a truly outstanding show: Faye Durkin (England); Yvonne Elliott (Scotland); Cate Gillon (Scotland); Kirsty McLachan (Scotland); Marion Parola (France); Samantha Reed (Canada); Laura Scott (Costa Rica); Stephen Tarnawski (Scotland); Youngjoo Yoo (South Korea).
This year's promenade will take place in September. If you're interested in design and fashion, we can't recommend highly enough that you get tickets - we'll make the details available here closer to the time.
