Retail Academy
Have you thought about working in retail, but maybe struggled to find a job because you lack experience? Or are you looking to build your confidence to help you get that job on the shop floor?
The Glasgow Retail Academy in Buchanan Galleries offers short-term, pre-employment training programmes to prepare you for a career in retail, and can give you the skills and knowledge you’ll need in order to bag that job.
Courses available
The Academy offers an 8-week programme, which covers the tasks and skills you’ll need, from serving customers and maintaining the shop floor, to receiving deliveries and checking stock.
There are three courses available:
If you’re aged 16-18 our course ‘Get Ready for Work’ will prepare you for starting a job, and beginning your career in retail.
If you’re 16-25 and perhaps already have some work experience, ‘Get into Retail’ in association with the Princes Trust has been created with you in mind.
If you’re over 25 and either working in another industry or unemployed and looking to get into retail, we’ve ‘Training for Work’.
And once you’ve completed a Retail Academy course, we can offer you SVQ assessments and in-work assessment as part of your ongoing lifelong learning.

About the Retail Academy
Retail is a hugely important industry in Glasgow, which is recognised as being the best retail destination in the UK outside of London.
Given how important retail is to the city, the Glasgow Retail Academy was set up to provide training to enable local people to get jobs in the industry, and to also provide staff training and support for retailers in Glasgow.
The Academy is managed and operated by Glasgow North Regeneration Agency and works in conjunction with Buchanan Galleries and its retailers. It is funded in partnership with the Princes Trust Scotland, Skills Development Scotland and Buchanan Partnership, the owners of Buchanan Galleries.
Since it was established in January 2007 the initiative has had great success in placing trainees into employment, and aims to progress more than 65% of trainees into a long-term retail career.
