Development

We have exciting long term plans to develop and improve Buchanan Galleries - including a vision to essentially double the size of the current centre and add in new shopping, restaurant and leisure facilities.

Outline planning consent has been granted for the plans, which at an estimated 1.3 million square feet will make Buchanan Galleries one of the largest shopping centres in Scotland.

As well as adding an additional 700,000 square feet of space, we're also planning a new multi-storey car park above Buchanan Bus Station; to improve Buchanan bus station to create a transport hub for the city; and to create a new restaurant quarter, and a stunning new atrium entrance to Buchanan Galleries and the Royal Concert Hall.

We're also planning to build a new pedestrian bridge connecting the new enhanced Buchanan Galleries to the new car park.  And we'll be adding new retail outlets on Buchanan Street, Cathedral Street and Killermont Street.

This will be served by 2,500 car parking spaces, an enhanced Buchanan Bus Station and excellent rail connections.

Our plans include:

  • More shopping space
  • More places to eat and drink
  • Improvements to the existing shopping centre
  • Improvements to surrounding areas
  • A new car park & transport interchange

What does this mean for me?

  • A bigger shopping centre, offering more choice under one roof
  • Bolstering the retail offering in Glasgow city centre
  • New jobs for local people
  • Estimated investment of £400 million into Glasgow city centre
  • Regeneration of the north side of the city centre
  • Integrated & improved public transport facilities
  • Improvements to the areas surrounding Buchanan Galleries
  • Making Glasgow more attractive for locals & visitors
