Start with a light base

Whether you're holidaying abroad or at home this summer, you'll want to look bronzed and healthy. We've asked beauty guru Mailin Haddow to give us a simple step-by-step guide on how to create a bronzed summer look.

Give your skin a sheer tint of colour by applying a tinted moisturiser or bronze tint. Avoid heavy foundation which is unnecessary at this time of year.

Apply it with your fingers making sure it's even and blend it well particularly under the jawline.

Apply bronzer

Using a big soft brush, dust bronzer over the face where sun would naturally hit it - cheeks, temples, nose, chin. To add definition to your face, brush bronzer under the jawline and blend down to the neck.

Apply cream eye shadow

Apply a long-wearing cream shadow, in either a shimmer or bronze shade, on the lids. You can use your fingers to sweep a wash of colour over the eyes.

Brush a little of the same colour under the bottom lashes to make the eyes glisten.

Apply bronze eye liner

To define the eyes use a bronze pencil liner along the top lid or both top and bottom lids.  Avoid a harsh line by using a smudger or cotton bud to blend the it.

Apply mascara

The easiest way to apply mascara is to look down and gently vibrate the brush as you take the wand from root to tip. This will coat the sides of the lashes and create volume.

Add highlighter

Give the skin a gorgeous glow using a liquid or powder highlighter. Apply it with your fingers to the tops of your cheekbones and under the brow bones.

Apply lip gloss

A lip liner is not necessary for this look as we want to keep it really natural. Instead simply add a shimmery gloss with a hint of bronze to ensure a plump pout.
