Apply light shadow to eyes

Red lips never go out of style - so it's no surprise they were all over the a/w catwalks, and they're still with us in the Spring. But such a bold colour can be tricky if you're not used to it - which is why we've asked make-up guru Mailin Haddow to give us a step-by-step guide...

Prepare your eyes by evening out the skin tone with concealer. Follow by sweeping a light shadow across the whole of the lids.

Apply eye liner

Using short sweeping strokes, apply black liquid or gel eyeliner as close to the lash line as possible. Extend the line out from the top lid with a gentle flick to accentuate the eyes.

Apply white eye liner

Use a white or light coloured pencil in the inner lower eyelids. This will brighten the eyes and make them appear bigger.

Apply taupe eye shadow

Using a flat headed brush, apply a taupe eyeshadow under the bottom lashes.

Apply mascara

Sweep mascara on your top and bottom lashes. Do this several times to make them ultra thick and glossy.

Lip liner

Make sure your lips are in tip top condition before applying lip liner or lipstick. Start by massaging lip balm into your lips and get rid of any dry skin by brushing your lips gently with a toothbrush. Blot off excess lip balm before you apply anything to your lips.

Apply a lip liner matching your chosen lipstick following the natural lip line and all over the lips.

Lipstick

Apply your lipstick with a brush to get a smooth, luxurious finish.

Keep your lipstick within the lines of the lip liner. If you do make any mistakes and go over the line, dip a cotton bud in concealer and cover it up!
