What to wear to: Festivals

Hurray! The time's finally come for T in the Park!  We've got our tickets, we've got our tent, now the really tricky bit - what to wear?

We want to look hot, but not as if we've tried too hard.  There's a limit to how much stuff we'll want to cart with us for the weekend (unless we can find a handy pack mule to take with us). And then there's the weather...

To set us up for what's one of the biggest fashion events of the year, we've scoured the shops with our favourite stylist and pulled together a series of different looks to inspire you to stand out of the crowd and look effortlessly fabulous at Balado - and for the rest of the summer.  See you at the main stage!

Floral sequin jacket

Keeping everything simple doesn't mean that you can't make a statement.  We're loving this floral jersey jacket with sequin details - and it looks even better when you pair it with casual gear. Don't have a toned tummy? Layer a longer vest top under (or instead of) the cropped T.

Sequin jersey blazer: H&M £29.99
Stripe crop top: Soul Cal at Republic £14.99
Pale blue denim shorts: Miss Selfridge £25
Flower in Hair: Accessorize £6
Green necklace: John Lewis £20

Basics with a twist

Layer up with basics - they won't take up a lot of space, and you can layer up (or down!) to suit the weather.  But don't play it too safe.  Mix up patterns, colours and detailing to add contrast and interest.  We love this blue vest with beading detail which clashes gorgeously with the orange and black trousers.

Where it's from:
Orange patterned trousers: River Island £29.99
Blue beaded vest: Warehouse £35
Denim shirt: Next £20
Hat: River Island £16.99

Girly with khaki

Two of this summer's biggest trends - statement prints and military - are perfect for festivals and look even better when you combine them.  So, take a pretty dress (like this gingham check, or a floral print) and contrast it with a parka or big boots. You look great and you're weatherproof - result!

Bold prints

Clashing, statement (or "conversational" as the fashion editors call them) prints are big this summer.  But if you're not brave enough to wear them down Buchanan Street on a saturday afternoon, then you've the perfect excuse at T in the Park.  Mix up your prints - the bigger and more colourful, the better!

Feminine layering

Layering is good.  But it doesn't have to be all about oversized Ts and hoodies - embrace your feminine side and show off your figure with girly, cropped and shapely pieces. We've gone a bit 80's Madonna here with the pink lace, bra top and cropped checked shirt with a pretty skater skirt - definitely a look to get you noticed (and in a good way!).

Where it's from:
Denim bra top: Miss Selfridge £18
Cropped checked shirt: Republic £19.99
Pattern skirt: Roxy at Quiksilver £55
Pink lace bodysuit: H&M £2.99

Style mash up

Who says classic rock doesn't go with cheesy Europop?!  Create your own musically-inspired mash up to suit yourself - we love the combination of the studded wellies with the bright turquoise glasses. Somehow, just like Glee, it shouldn't really work - but it just does.

Where it's from:
Pink pattern vest: River Island £16.99
Checked shirt: Whistles at John Lewis £85
Denim shorts: Gap £32.50
Belt: Warehouse £22
Headband: Diva at Miss Selfridge £10

Pretty military

Another take on pretty vs khaki, this time with a young and fresh, and more tailored feel.  This fitted jacket is definitely more parade ground than on manoeuvres, and a shape like this - when you pair it with a fuller skirt - will make your waist look tiny.  A look that will take you all through summer - not just the weekend!

Where it's from:
Floral dress: Oasis £75
Khaki military jacket: Miss Selfridge £48
Belt: John Lewis £20
Headband: River Island £16.99
Necklace: Oasis £20
Ring: Thomas Sabo £129
Bag: Oasis £40
Blue Converse: John Lewis £37

Go cowgirl

Pick up on this season's cowgirl chic with a sassy combination of denim, leather and fringing topped off with a (straw) stetson. Avoid looking like you're out guising for Hallowe'en, though, by through adding contrasting pieces - like our bright accessories.

Where it's from:
Suede tassel shorts: River Island £29.99
Checked shirt: Fred Perry £55
Floral bracelet: Miss Selfridge £20
Straw hat: John Lewis £15
Long necklace: Next £12

Clever cover-ups

Not 100% body confident?  Nope, us neither - so use clever styling tricks to make the most of your shape.  Nervous about your legs?  Long socks are cute, on trend, and a lot more flattering than going bare. A fuller skirt or shorts will make your thighs look thinner.  Want to look taller and slimmer?  A long trailing scarf (especially with fringing like this) or even a long statement necklace will make you look taller and distract from your tummy. Result!

Where it's from:
Khaki frill skirt: Warehouse £25
Print bandeau top: H&M £2.99
Denim waistcoat: Oasis £40
Grey tassel scarf: Crafted at Republic £14.99
Floral socks: Cosy Camper £6
Long rope detail in hair: Accessorize £8
Feather in hair: Accessorize £8
Pink wellies: Cosy Camper £20

all at Buchanan Galleries.
