Celebrating the historic twinning of Glasgow and Boston
The World Cup may be over, but the special relationship between Glasgow and Boston is only just getting started!
Following on from the partnership that sparked between Scottish World Cup fans and host city Boston during the 2026 World Cup this summer, Glasgow and Boston are set to undergo an official twinning ceremony – and we're joining the celebrations.
To commemorate to this incredible new relationship, Buchanan Galleries has designed, unveiled and registered a new bespoke tartan named 'Twinned in Tartan'.
The one-of-a-kind print was designed by Glasgow-based tartan specialists Slanj, and celebrates the positive impact Scotland fans left on Boston as they immersed themselves in the city's culture during the tournament.
With colours inspired by the flags of Glasgow and Boston, as well as the iconic Green Monster of Fenway Park, our striking new tartan is made to be a symbol of the friendship between the two cities and creates a lasting legacy ahead of the new partnership.
A new ceremonial kilt
To further mark the occasion, Buchanan Galleries has also commissioned a ceremonial kilt in the new tartan to be gifted to the City of Boston during the official twinning ceremony, due to take place in April 2027. The presentation is set to formally mark the long history between Glasgow and Boston, while also recognising the role Scotland supports played in bringing the two cities closer together over this past summer.
